Methodology

WePayFairly publishes pay figures from two data families, each labeled on the page where it appears.

Federal wage data (BLS OEWS)

Pages for the 830 detailed U.S. occupations draw on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics program, May 2025 release. For each occupation we publish the national mean wage and the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, and 90th percentiles, plus state-level and metropolitan-area figures where BLS publishes them. Employment counts shown are BLS estimates. Role descriptions, typical education, skills, and task content on these pages include information from O*NET OnLine by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, used under the CC BY 4.0 license.

WePayFairly title architecture

Our proprietary library of more than 26,000 corporate titles is built on a structured architecture of level (Associate through Chief), function, and organizational scope (Team through Corporate). Underlying market values were compiled from published survey sources during our 2018 to 2019 collection period. Where a title shows a pay range without published percentiles, the range is an estimate of minus 20 percent to plus 25 percent around the average and is labeled as such. State figures on these pages use estimated geographic differentials, also labeled.

Aging

All figures are aged to the current year using compounded annual market movement of approximately 3 to 4 percent, consistent with published salary structure movement over the period. BLS May 2025 data carries roughly one year of aging; architecture data carries cumulative aging from its collection period. Displayed figures are rounded to the nearest $500 per year.
